USM International Business Students Help State Companies with Export Plans

For the 10th consecutive year students majoring in international business at The University of Southern Mississippi conducted research and presented senior capstone projects critical to the export of Mississippi goods and services around the world.

The seniors, under the direction of Dr. John Lambert, associate professor of International Business, made their final presentations to three Mississippi businesses as the Spring 2017 semester came to a close earlier this month. The students compiled data and produced a business plan designed to help the companies with their export options.

Also in attendance for the presentations was Carol Moore, director of the Mississippi Office of the U.S. Department of Commerce in Jackson, Miss.

Companies represented and the corresponding plans included:

  • Helanbak, Columbia, Miss. – Developed a plan to export water well drill pipe and drill bits to Mexico, and lumber industry saw blades to Brazil.

  • Beck’s Confections, Ridgeland, Miss. – Developed a plan to export sweet potato and strawberry products to Canada and Japan.

  • D.J. Roof Seamers, Corinth, Miss. – Developed a plan to expand markets for their roof seaming machines in Mexico, Brazil, Panama, Trinidad & Tobago, and the Dominican Republic.
