Friday April 7 – Saturday April 8

University of Southern Mississippi
Hattiesburg, Mississippi

The first-ever iD 8 Hackathon and STEM innovation conference is designed to promote coding and computer science education among African-American high school girls.

The hackathon is a competition open to teams of five (including four students and one teacher, adult sponsor or team leader). Fifty female high school students from across the Pine Belt are registered to compete in the first iD 8 Hackathon.

Each team will learn to code, build, and present a mobile app focused on utilizing the power of social media in a positive way. Prior coding experience is not necessary for participation. Winners will take prizes back to their schools.

In addition to the hackathon competition, participates will get to hear from inspiration STEM speakers including Sheena Allen of Sheena Allen Apps, Dr. Mary Moore of GE Aviation/founder of S.T.E.M. Discoveries, and Dr. Rodney Bennett, president of The University of Southern Mississippi.
