Mississippi Angel Network ‘Roadshow’ Goes Virtual this Month

Two Mississippi-based companies—Compete Running and Jano Technologies—will give virtual presentations next week to accredited investors, as they seek “angel” rounds of investment to move their business plans forward.

Compete Running, founded by competitive runner and social scientist Marvin King, offers a software application that gives runners their “number” — something akin to a golfer’s handicap.

By analyzing each run for terrain, weather and other factors, Compete Running helps runners analyze their performance, compare with others and train to improve. Compete Running also makes it possible to hold accurate and competitive “virtual races,” delivering an important opportunity for race organizers, charities and others during this pandemic era.

Nosa Bridges - JANO - Innovate Mississippi
Nosa Bridges, CEO of Jano Technologies

Jano Technologies, headed by CEO Vasco “Nosa” Bridges, III, makes software that improves courts and courtrooms’ efficiency while improving their IT infrastructure. The software helps judges, clerks, attorneys and even probation officers manage cases electronically while improving in-court case processing and offering tools to the public for dealing with court documents, fees and fines. The company is headquartered in Jackson with an extensive client base in Illinois.

The Mississippi Angel Network “Roadshow” is usually a series of in-person pitch events held in places such as Jackson, Oxford and on the Gulf Coast. In past years, accredited investors have been able to meet with startup CEOs in Mississippi and hear their pitches.

This month, due to COVID-19, Innovate Mississippi will hold three different virtual sessions, inviting investors to meet and hear from the CEOs via Zoom.

“We enjoy doing the Roadshows in person because it gives the founders and investors an opportunity to networks,” said Tony Jeff, CEO of Innovate Mississippi. “That said, doing it virtually this year means investors from all over the state can participate and connect with the founders and one another. We invite them to join us from their offices or homes.”

Individual or institutional Investors with SEC accreditation from inside or outside of Mississippi are invited to participate in the virtual Roadshow this August. To learn more and get involved, contact Tony Jeff at tjeff@innovate.ms or 601-960-3610.
