Innovate Mississippi to Hold Press Conference Announcing “Code Mississippi”

(Jackson, Miss.) – Innovate Mississippi announced today that it will lead a press conference Wednesday, March 8, at 10:00 a.m. to announce its new Code Mississippi program (www.codems.net). The press conference will take place at Coalesce, located at 109 North State Street in downtown Jackson, and it is open to the public and all media.

Innovate Mississippi launched Code Mississippi to help organize coding resources and bring coding leaders together within the state. Tony Jeff, president and CEO of Innovate Mississippi, will announce during the press conference the initiatives of the program and outline how through key partnerships, innovation and creativity, Code Mississippi can lead to an unprecedented tech boom across the state.

Coding, which is problem-solving using and/or creating computer programming and instructions, is “the problem-solving methodology of the future,” per Jeff. “We want to make sure that anyone interested in coding – or who is already coding – is connected to other coders, jobs and resources within our state,” he added.

“There are already significant coding resources and activities in Mississippi, and more are on the way,” said Jeff. “Cultivating a vibrant coding community that is closely connected with the state’s technology startup companies is not only crucial to building the ecosystem for technology startups, it’s also a vital component to keeping our best and brightest job seekers here in Mississippi.”

The press conference will immediately follow the 1 Million Cups presentation, a weekly gathering hosted at Coalesce where new startup companies, nonprofits and projects are pitched. It runs from 9:00 until 10:00 a.m. and is open to the public and free to attend. Tomorrow, in conjunction with the press announcement, the 1 Million Cups speaker is coder JC Hiatt, founder of Jackson-based Good Code & Design. Hiatt will present on the newly reorganized JXNtech Meetup Group that is in place to foster the tech community in the central Mississippi region and is open to open to tech-minded entrepreneurs, coders and developers, graphic designers, marketers, investors, educators, students and service providers.
