SUMMARY:2018 Rural Entrepreneurship Forum
DESCRIPTION:The 4th Annual Rural Entrepreneurship Forum is as part of the “Catalyzing Entrepreneurship and Economic Development” (CEED) initiative at the McLean Institute for Public Service and Community Engagement. The annual forum brings people together to promote entrepreneurship and economic development in rural areas throughout the state of Mississippi. Free of charge. \nDay One: \n\nTeresa Hubbard\, Mississippi Business Journal’s 2018 Business Woman of the Year\, will hold a “meet and greet” from 1:30-2:30 pm.\nThe Mississippi Small Business Development Center will host a pre-forum workshop on small business setup at 2:30 pm. Email Judy Forester at judy@olemiss.edu to sign up.\nVince Jordan\, Lobaki\, Inc.\, will showcase Virtual Reality from 2:30-4:00 pm.\nThe forum registration table will open at 3:00 pm. SUMMARY:Mississippi Robotics 2018 Annual Statewide Competition
DESCRIPTION:The STEM Advancement / Mississippi Robotics 2018 “STEM/SUMO” Annual Statewide Competition will be held on Saturday\, April 28\, 2018 at Nissan – Canton\, MS. \nThe time will be 8am – 5pm. Seven individual events and three team events will be included in the competition. \nMississippi Robotics is a non-profit organization involved in training youth and teachers in science\, technology\, math\, and engineering through practical hands-on activities. This STEM/SUMO Competition is designed to exercise and measure the students’ ability in several important areas involving skill\, critical thinking\, and strategy. Experience is not required. \nAwards. As we have done in our last two competitions students will be awarded 1st\, 2nd\, 3rd\, and 4th places per event with STEM Points that can be redeemed at our STEM Store at the end of the competition. We expect over $4\,000 in STEM gifts to be in the store. \nRegistration. Groups of four or more must sign up to be eligible for the team events. After serving over 1000 youth and after five years of competitions at no cost we will begin charging a fee of $10 a student. This competition is expected to be limited to 300 students due to facility space.  All fees are attached to a particular student and are non-refundable.
