Jackson Convention Complex
Innovate Mississippi will present the 7th Annual Mississippi New Venture Challenge business plan competition – don't miss this opportunity to have your startup company's business plan heard and critiqued by some of Mississippi's top entrepreneurs and investors!
Who can participate?
The Mississippi New Venture Challenge is open to all Mississippi innovation and technology startups. The competition is comprised of three categories:
- Commercial: Startup or existing companies with an innovation-based new venture opportunity open to post-revenue. Innovation-based ventures derive their primary business from proprietary products, processes or business systems – whether protected by intellectual property or not. For existing companies, judging will be based solely on the new venture opportunity.
- Pre-revenue: Each startup represents a company that is in the pre-revenue stage.
- Student: Each startup is comprised entirely of students.
Participants will be screened for the competition based on their executive summary created from an online questionnaire. Judging at the event will be based on the executive summary and the participant's live PowerPoint presentation. The same criteria will be used to judge participants in each division.
Judges for the competition will include angel investors and seasoned entrepreneurs.

Each participating startup will be paired with a mentor who will assist with preparation for the competition. Mentors will be matched with teams based on their areas of expertise and experience and include angel investors, industry experts and Venture Coaching Academy Fellows.
How to enter:
Complete an executive summary by answering the online questionnaire. When creating the executive summary, do not upload a video presentation – please ignore the video option on the questionnaire. Participants will not be required to submit a formal business plan. The applications deadline is Wednesday, April 30.

Applicants will be notified by Monday, May 5, if they have been selected to present at the competition. Participants will make a 10-15 minute live PowerPoint presentation with two-four minutes of Q&A. The length of the presentations may be adjusted depending on the number of applicants. The audience will include investors, service providers and other professionals.
Cash prizes and trophies will be awarded for first, second and third place in each division. Free services donated by service providers (accountants, attorneys, web developers, etc.) from around the state will be awarded to winners based on current needs. Winners will be recognized at the networking reception immediately following the competition. During the reception, winners will deliver one minute summary pitches about their winning ventures.
